Classic Outback #4

This is the fourth in a series of pictures which portray classical aspects of Outback scenery.

One of the delightful things about the Outback is the gentle, quirky humour that tends to pop up, often in quite unexpected ways and places. Like the sign on the main door of the pub saying “This is the back door. The front door is around the back.” Or discovering a “poetry box” (with a number of handwritten poems  inside) attached to the back of one of Adam Plate’s road signs beside the Oodnadatta Track. Or the Outback Ball which used to be held on a bare Outback plain at Curdimurka (near Lake Eyre), with the slogan “Forget five stars, we’ll give you a million stars.”

Hence my delight when recently travelling on the lonely Arumpo Road from Mildura to Mungo National Park in western NSW to come across this scene beside the track.

Writing about the things that interest me helps me to discover what I think. One of my loves is the Australian Outback, and I travel out there often, and when possible take friends with me.
