Way back in April last year, I posted an article on this blog called “Picture Challenge #1”, which featured a picture of an abandoned yellow double-decker bus. See https://dazzlerplus.wordpress.com/2012/04/08/picture-challenge-1/ . Reader Judy was soon able to identify it as the one beside the track between Cameron Corner and the Strzelecki Track, which was inhabited for some time in the past by one Joshua Yeldham, an aspiring artist. His stint in the yellow bus obviously didn’t do his artistic career any harm – this year he was a finalist in the Archibald Prize with his somewhat cryptic “Self Portrait”; see http://www.artgallery.nsw.gov.au/prizes/archibald/2013/29393/ .
Reader Cuppa pointed out that there are other double-decker busses in the Outback – not surprising since many were sold off cheaply in the 70s and 80s after doing enormous numbers of kilometres in government service. Some young people bought one as a sort of pub/home on wheels, and set off to discover Australia, only to have the vehicle break down in some remote place.
Other web sites have given the yellow bus prominence, most recently http://weburbanist.com/2012/09/23/deserted-double-decker-oz-outbacks-busted-bus/
But as far as I can tell, Bobby Dazzler’s Blog is the first to break the news on-line that the old yellow bus has gone:
