It’s become evident to me over the years that some people are much more observant than others. And of course, some have much better memories than others. (I’d give a list here of some of my friends who have hopeless memories, but fortunately for them, I can’t remember who they are.)
Sometimes, I’ll say to someone who’s been on a trip to the Outback with me, “Do you remember that elderly person we met in Coober Pedy?”, and they’ll say “Yes, you mean the one who’d just got back from Port Augusta? She was wearing a red overcoat – it was a cold day. I think she’d just been to the supermarket.” And I’ll think, “Wow, all I can remember is that she was elderly.”
Anyway, here’s a picture of a rather photogenic dead tree. Some people with sharp memories and good powers of observation will have no difficulty in telling me just where it is in the vast Australian Outback.
Hi Rob, I’ve not been there but I wonder if it may be Cameron’s Corner…The post to the right looks like some sort of marker.
I agree with Anne.. Sure looks like Cameron’s Corner…
There is a nearby eatery. When asked, “What kind of pies do you have?”, they replied, “Round ones!”
Definately Cameron Corner, I have photos of my kids in that tree.
Well, you’re all correct — it’s Cameron Corner, where SA, NSW and QLD meet. And the “eatery” is the aptly-named “Corner Store”, staffed by the inimitable Fenn and Cheryl. And yes, their pies are all round ones.
And the fence in the background is the famous “Dog Fence”. The theory is “dingoes on one side, sheep on the other side”. The picture was taken on the dingo side.
I guess I’ll have to make these Picture Challenges harder!
G’Day,
I am enjoying your picture challenges though not getting many correct. I was wondering if you or your knowledgeable readers may be able to help my readers (who I fear are all asleep). I have photos of what could be a bunyip’s footprints on my blog. Not sure how to share it with you (new to this blogging game) but maybe you’d like to take a look.
Cheers,
Mandy
For those who are interested in bunyips (and who isn’t?), Mandy’s blog (which is about “loving and living rural Australia”) can be found at http://rockysprings.wordpress.com/. Surely someone can sort this matter out. Mandy and her husband Brian live on a property at Coolatia in northern NSW.
I had a look at Mandy’s blog and the footprints. No idea what made the print, but would love to know if you find out. Also found your blog delightful too. Especially like the idea of chasing a bull through those grass trees.
Anne – the prints are a kangaroo. Go to my blog site for an explanation.
Dazzler – thanks for sharing!
