Lake Eyre Report

As of 13th February, 2012, National Parks and Wildlife South Australia reported that Lake Eyre is now at “just over 5% surface coverage”. So, as predicted, evaporation and soakage during the summer months have dealt with most of the massive amount of water that came into the lake in earlier months. The cycle of the millennia rolls on!

    Speaking of drying out, I can report that the Coongie Lakes track north from Innamincka is now open (as at 15.2.2102) & easily driven. I speak from experience as the first party on it since – perhaps – 2009.
